The Name’s Bezos: Amazon Takes the Reins of iconic James Bond

For more than six decades, the Broccoli family has fiercely guarded the legacy of James Bond, selecting its leading men behind closed doors with the kind of secrecy befitting MI6. But with Michael G. Wilson retiring and Barbara Broccoli stepping back to focus on new projects, the torch has been passed—not to another family member, but to Amazon. The tech giant now holds full control of 007’s future, marking a seismic shift for one of cinema’s most enduring franchises.

Daniel Craig, who spent 15 years as Bond across five films, paid tribute to the departing producers, calling his time in the role a “wonderful experience” and expressing his “respect, admiration, and love” for Wilson and Broccoli. For her part, Broccoli reflected on her family’s stewardship of Bond, acknowledging the “extraordinary legacy” left by her father, legendary producer Cubby Broccoli. Having worked closely with four actors who have donned the tuxedo, she now steps away from the franchise, leaving Amazon in charge of the next incarnation of 007.

With Jeff Bezos now holding the keys to Bond’s Aston Martin, speculation over the next 007 has reached fever pitch. And if online chatter is anything to go by, Henry Cavill is the people’s choice. The former Superman star, who has made no secret of his desire to play Bond, was widely regarded as the runner-up when Casino Royale was cast in 2006.

Martin Campbell, the film’s director, revealed last year that Cavill’s audition was “tremendous” and that “if Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond.” The only issue? “He just looked a little young at that time,” Campbell admitted. Nearly two decades later, Cavill certainly isn’t too young anymore—so could his time finally have come?

Meanwhile, other names in the mix include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. But as Bond enters the streaming age, the bigger question remains: will Amazon preserve the franchise’s legacy or steer it into unfamiliar territory? One thing’s for sure—007’s next mission is shaping up to be the most unpredictable yet.

Who do you think should be Bond, yes James Bond?!
